All embracing love, that is the requirement of a spiritual person and the incarnations of the Lord are also all embracing, and they only object if somebody gives troubles to the devotees, then the Lord becomes very upset. If you give trouble to the devotees, then the Lord will simply destroy you, wipe you off from the face of the planet. Vrindavan is the place of the original avatari. Svayam rupa bhagavan sri kishna - is the One Form from Whom all the other incarnations came. That is very confidential information.
The most important for all of you is to understand that this human form of life is an extreme adventure to reach the supreme destination of life. It is not a casual experience. There is nothing casual. Everything is extreme, everything is intense. The nature of this world is do or die. This is something very exciting.
Sannyas is a goal and it is also a method. Because in the spiritual environment people are very happy to meet somebody who is trustworthy, they can put their trust in him, they know he or she made a promise, made a commitment and he is reliable in this connection. Therefore I get enthusiastic and want to participate. Lord Krishna calls the last chapter of the Bhagavad gita, The Perfection of Renunciation. He talks about sannyas. Sannyas is a very natural step of responsibility. It is a very important element in human society. And it is also a very important element in the individual spiritual life, because if we become older and we are still attached to comfortable living, to our own mind, this is not such a happy thing. We should try everything possible to focus on the Supreme Enjoyer, the Supreme Proprietor and the Supreme Controller. It is pretty difficult because in this world we want to be the proprietor of so many things, we want to control so many things, and we surely want to enjoy so many things. Enjoyment is a natural propensity, it is something within the conditioned soul, but the only joy and happiness according to Vaishnava philosophy will be achieved when somebody overcomes his separate interest from Krishna.
The Deity is not something produced. Nobody can produce a Deity. But the spiritual teachers can install and ask the Lord to accept our service. And He will accept our service if there is love. Deity worship allows us to make God a reality of our life. He does not need this, He is totally independent. But we need to serve somebody, we need to focus on somebody, we need to be surrendered to somebody. If we are not than our life is lost. If we cannot worship Deities, than we can also not write about the Lord, read about the Lord, talk about the Lord or think about the Lord. Because just like a Deity, this is supposedly imaginary. But as much as you say it's imaginary we say sastra is not imaginary. So if sastra is not imaginary, sadhu is not imaginary, guru is not imaginary than the Deity is also not imaginary.
Spiritual emotions (bhava) are very high. They come before prema, which is pure love for God, which has completely overtaken one's existence. Pure love of God is really wonderful. We need that, we need the association of those who love God. Only those who love God are really interesting. Other people who are loving material things, they have not much to offer to us. We cannot offer to them our time, because our time is very precious. If we give our time to those who only have attachment for sense gratification, then our whole human life will be wasted. We cannot give our time to television, sports, politics. We cannot give our time to anything which is not taking us closer to Krishna. An intense eagerness develops in the heart of the devotee who is actually fixed in devotional service. He wants to be with Krishna. He has full hope that Krishna will do something, so that he can reach His lotus feet. This mood is very special.
Unless one's mind is fixed in Krishna consciousness, he can never settle for anything. I think that is a practical experience and confirmed by every entity within his own field of experience. To fix the mind is something we naturally aspire for. That's why we study one author and we get enthused about his writing. But very soon after finishing reading the book our mind flickers on to the next subject. Even we forget the one who previously enthused us with his capturing ideas.
It is a great illusion of the European people to think that they are the top race of the planet. They had some development in technology after the Renaissance. The industrial society gradually expanded in Europe. And Europeans started to colonise other countries. Ships, weapons and big idol worshippers. These people were really influenced by the whole idea that sense-gratification reigns supreme. So when the colonialism started, then slavery, enslaving entire countries became very popular. Asia, Africa, America. they went there and they made everybody their property. And what did they tell everybody? They said: We came here to save you. This so called saving implied that they wanted to make them submit to their idol worship. To their crown worship. Monarchy at that time was very strong. You had to bow to the crown of England, the crown of Spain, etc. So they told everybody that now you are under the crown of this place and that place. And if you are not accepting, we will kill you. Where they went people had very beautiful cultures, specifically in South America and India, such highly developed cultures. The europeans in order to maintain their supremacy, they followed this idea of devastating everything else. Meaning burning and killing everything they could get their hands on. They attempted to destroy Indian culture as well. But in India they had a big problem in the beginning. In India there was no religious organisation to destroy. In India religion was part of everybody's family. Part of every village and every town. It was the treasure of the heart of a yogi. And the books and the temples were very important but spirituality was independent from the books and the temples. How many temples were being destroyed in India? Besides Christianity and the Euromegalomania, there was also competition, and that was with the Muslimmegalomania. There is no count of how many temples were destroyed by Muslims. And not only temples, cities as well, entire historic elements of this world have been destroyed in this way.
Give up your preoccupation about your future, because if your present is a mess then your future will be more messy. But when you are aiding others then your present is glorious and your future will be glorious. Material philosophy means now save your money and tomorrow enjoy, save for your vacations, save for your home, save for your car, save save save and don't give, and in this way your life becomes pretty miserable. And nowadays the banks may also become bankrupt, we have already seen that a few times. All of a sudden there is devaluation of the currency and what was yesterday 10 is now worth only 5. This just happened in the United States, strongest country in the world, supposed to be. Everybody in the U.S. over the period of the last six months lost between 35 and 50 percent of their assets. No exaggeration. If they had a million dollars, now they have 500000 Usd or 650000 Usd. If they had debts they lost their houses. In the last 6 months 4 million homes in the U.S. went into foreclosure. The houses went down in value, what was worth 100000 Usd is now worth 50000 Usd, but they owe 80000 Usd to the bank. This means that now you have more debts than the house covers. Nice game of the money changers.
Krishna due to His kindness keeps us in a state of emergency. Why? Because we need that, we need that state of emergency, because we have not yet discovered loving spontaneous devotional service. Somehow or other Sri Krishna, He has the devotee-community grow, from one emergency to the next. I have at this given moment approximately between 100 and 200 emergencies. When the telephone rings it means another emergency. The emergencies put us in contact with Krishna. Supreme Queen Kunti said that let this emergencies come again and again and again because when there is an emergency she has to take refuge in Sri Krishna. In this way Krishna is sending these emergencies to us to be more close to Him. So Queen Kunti says that she wants these emergencies to come again and again, because if everything would be going fine and there would be no problem at all then we would just go to sleep, then we would just do some useless thing like turning on the television.
Thakura Bhaktivinoda is acknowledged by all his sincere followers as possessing the powers of the pure devotee of Godhead. His words have to be received from the lips of a pure devotee. If his words are listened from the lips of a non-devotee they will certainly deceive. If his works are studied in the light of one's own worldly experience their meaning will refuse to disclose itself to such readers. His works belong to the class of the eternal revealed literature of the world and must be approached for their right understanding through their exposition by the pure devotee. If no help from the pure devotee is sought, the works of Thakura Bhaktivinoda will be grossly misunderstood by their readers. The attentive reader of those works will find that he is always directed to throw himself upon the mercy of the pure devotee if he is not to remain unwarrantably self-satisfied by the deluding results of his wrong method of study.
There is no possibility of doing Krishna bhakti without Guru bhakti. You cannot engage in Krishna bhakti without honoring the Guru, without honoring the Vaishnavas. In Sri Bhakti Rasamrita sindhu by Srila Rupa Goswami Prabhupada there is a discussion about the angas of bhakti. Anga means limb, like my arms or my legs and angi means the body. So the angi has angas. Rupa Goswami gives the angas of Krishna bhakti, 64 limbs of bhakti to Krishna. In listing those angas of Krishna bhakti what is the first thing that he says? What is the first anga of Krishna bhakti? He says guru padasraya... we have to take shelter of the feet of the Guru, to come and sit and hear. So this is the first anga of the angi of Krishna bhakti.
There is a story in the Mahabharata about the Kauravas who sent the Pandavas into the forest to be in exile. And these Kauravas they thought: "Let us make the Pandavas envious by having a big party right next to were they are exiled, we are going to have a big feast and we are going to sing and dance and these guys (the Pandavas) cannot come out because they are in exile, let's really torture them in this way." So they (the Kauravas) were in the middle of their partying when suddenly the Gandharvas, who are some very powerful people, they found out about their party. Having a grudge against the Kauravas, the Gandharvas came and invaded their party and they took everybody prisoner. One messenger went to Yudhishtira and said: "Somebody took the Kauravas as prisoners, their whole party was destroyed by the Gandharvas." And then Yudhishtira said: "Oh, then we have to go and free them, we have to protect them, Bhima go and get your weapons, we are going to go and help the Kauravas." Bhima said: "Never, never I will do this, move one finger for these Kauravas. No Yudhishtira, you cannot ask me that, anything else you can ask me." Then Yudhishtira said: "Listen Bhima, you are right, they are rascals and they should be chastised, they are real nonsense and they have done real stupid things, but when we are under attack we are 105 (The Kauravas are 100 brothers and the Pandavas 5 brothers), because we have a family relationship. If a foreign interest, a foreign danger approaches, even though I have a misgiving with my brother or with my nephew, when we are under attack we are 105." In India the junior submits to the senior unlike in the west where we even fight with our father. We have no understanding of tradition, of keeping something unified and strong. So Bhima finally said that if this is your order Yudhishtira I obey. They went and they freed the Kauravas and defeated the Gandharvas. This shows you how powerful these 5 brothers were, what the whole Kauravas could not do. So in the same way when we are under attack, we are one Vaishnavas, doesn't matter wether we are Ramanujas, Madhvacharyas or Vallabhacharyas.
There is a law in physics which says that every action has a corresponding reaction. People learn about it in school but they do not learn how to apply this law in real life. They think that this is a law for the mechanical department, or maybe it is a law for the chemical department, but they do not think that this is a law for the life department. You are functioning under this law. Every one of your actions will bring about a corresponding reaction, no exception to the rule. Everybody teaches it in every school in the world, but they do not apply it to their own life. If I use a little bit too much salt then what happens to the food? It becomes spoiled. If I cook it too long, or too little, too much salt, too little salt, every detail has a reaction. So then why do you think that life has no reactions? Why you think that you can kill, intoxicate, you can abort children, you can do anything without getting a reaction? You know why you think in that way? Because you idiot think that you are the center of the universe.
The Power of Determination - Trying to conquer the relative or submit to the absolute
|show details||hide details|
Do we belong to the relative or to the absolute? If we would belong to the relative and it is natural to die then why we do not want this? It is natural that we need food so nobody is upset by the fact that he needs to take food. It is natural that we have to go to the bathroom, it is not such a pleasant thing but still we all submit to the process. But when it comes to death we are really upset about it and we do so many things in this world to try to avoid it. Death is a relative thing and we belong to the absolute, so we are in absolute opposition towards the relative impact of death. And even the announcements of death called old age and disease are very much against what we aspire to meet. But because we are in this relative existence with a body subjected to the rules and regulations of this relative world there is nothing we can do about it, we simply have to accept. So we are in confrontation between the absolute and the relative. Nobody can say that: "this is not my struggle, this is not my topic." Hiranyakasipu wanted to conquer the relative, he said: "I will do something about it. I will become a yogi and I will get so much power that death will not be able to touch me." So he became a great yogi and he was very determined in what he was doing. He went into yoga meditation and started to make extreme tapasya (austerities) in order to conquer death.
Srila B.B. Bodhayan Maharaja recently said that: "A community of Vaishnavas which is somewhat maintained but where nobody accepts anybody specifically, it is just a factory of laziness and chaos." These are a bit strong words but you see that in Vedic culture there is quite an autocratic system present which obviously only functions under the principles of love, trust and justice. We hear from the Ramayana that any complain any citizen had, specifically a brahmin, he could go right away to the king and complain to him: "My dear King, you are supposed to be the ideal ruler, why this is going on, why that is going on?" and the king had to respond to this complain. So please do not think that we are promoting a dictatorial style of imposition of anyone on top of others. This is not the meaning of autocracy in accordance with the spiritual community.
One of my godbrothers went to the beach in Jagannath Puri, he was a hippie. As he walked he saw something shining on the beach. He went down and looked and there was a little Krishna deity. So he picked Him up and immediately he was attracted to the Deity and without having any other introduction or knowledge about it he carried the Deity to his home and started to offer food to Him. Very shortly after that he went to Hyderabad and met the devotees on the street and they invited him to meet Srila Prabhupada. He went there and fell in love with Srila Prabhupada at once, became his disciple and Prabhupada made him the pujari of Radha Madhava in Mayapur. That was 28 years ago or more and he is still pujari there.
How important are we? - Understanding the cause and importance of our existence
|show details||hide details|
How important are we? That is actually only answerable in connection with the cause of our existence. The cause supposedly is an indicator to the purpose, and when the purpose is fulfilled and the cause is thus satisfied we can thus define what was the value. How important are we, if we could not talk about this subject we would not know if we are important at all. If we want to be important without knowing the reason why we exist or why we are important then that would bring about a state of consciousness of self-righteousness which is artificial and not accepted by others and which would finally prove to be erroneous by the very development of the history of matter and your participation in it.
Krishna is vanquished by exclusive devotion. This sentence alone should drive us mad, should let us fall on the ground and cry and cry and cry, if our hearts would be soft enough. God the Creator, vanquished by pure devotion. As a matter of fact He is addicted to pure devotion, He wants it. As a matter of fact He has given you your loving capacity so that you can reach to real devotion. Exclusive devotion is the goal of our life. Exclusive devotion means exclusive love to Krishna in every moment in every circumstance to everybody, this is something extraordinary. This is the love we have seen in our spiritual masters. My gurus had exclusive devotion and they gave us their love from their exclusive devotion.
Money is a certain energy and it has the tendency of growing, it becomes more and more and more. There is a famous saying which says that the rich become richer and the poor poorer. Why the rich become richer? Because they use their riches to create circumstances in which the poor people cannot rise. This is called eliminating competition.
Summary of Oida Therapy - Faith will sustain us when everything else will be lost
|show details||hide details|
Humanity is in great need for some new revival of spiritual, mystical, non-sectarian consciousness which puts love first and doctrine second. Because if love is first then doctrine will be helpful to realize more love, but if doctrine is first it usually becomes dogma and dogma is often being executed without love which results in loss of faith.
Sit in a comfortable position, either in a yoga posture or in a chair which is not too soft. Try to keep your column in a position as straight as you can do comfortably. Now mentally thank all those who have helped you along your way, both physically as well as spiritually. To remove from your consciousness all the guilt ask mentally to be forgiven from all those whom you have caused pain and sadness either knowingly or unknowingly.
Only dearest confidants are entitled to enter into the night-pastimes of Radha-Krishna. Sakhis always try for the union of Radha-Krishna. Actually Radha-Krishna are very much eager for mutual union at night. When Radha-Krishna's union is manifest, Vrinda devi with dearest Sakhis worship Radha-Krishna in various ways. After that Radha-Krishna with those Sakhis move in the forest, sing songs and perform the rasa-lila with dancing. Our revered guru-varga used to caution us by saying that only eligible votaries can remember the pastimes of Radha-Krishna of midday at Radha-kunda, dusk-pastimes and night-pastimes of rasa-lila. To meditate on this lila is a great privilege for those who are actually surrendered devotees.
The internal symptom of devotion is a stage of perfection. On that stage one worships Krishna in the mood of separation (vipralamabha). The Siksastakam describes this mood as follows: "My dear Lord Govinda, because of separation from you, I consider even a moment a great millennium, tears flow from my eyes like torrents of rains and I see the entire world as void. In my agitation a day never ends, for every moment seems like a millennium. Pouring incessant tears, my eyes are like clouds in the rainy season. The three worlds have become void because of separation from Govinda. I feel like I was burning alive in a slow fire."
Srila Prabhupada is the saviour of our soul. Of course he would give all the credit to Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda, but I knew that through him so he is my saviour. Srila Prabhupada was not only a saviour in the world of individual meditation processes and speaking about transcendence, he was also that utmost revolutionary of giving a spiritual guidelines and clarity to the whole world on how they should behave, how they can solve their problems, socially, politically, economically, etc. He was clearly a representative of the Absolute Truth even though he did not emphasize it, his only emphasis was that he tried to serve his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada.
O Supreme Lord Sri Krishna! When by uttering your Holy Name, my eyes will be adorned with sacred glamour of the rolling down of tears, while uttering, my voice will be choked, the whole body will be saturated with thrilling sensation?
Even though attachment is the root cause of material downfall and pain, if that attachment is transfered to a sadhu and Krishna then that very attachment will automatically open the door to liberation. Have you ever seen an automatic door? You can see them in the Airports in Europe. You approach the door and by electronic sensor the door opens, knowing that somebody is coming. In a similar way your hearts feelings are scanned by a spiritual sensor and the obstruction from leaving this material world is removed automatically, with the attachment to a sadhu in your heart the doors to liberation opens, that means the door into the life of purity, the door into goodness, the door into dharma, the door into devotion.
Devotion and willpower have very much in common. If you have devotion you get the willpower to do something. Usually when people are personally ambitious they have the highest performance. The willpower to do service, the willpower not to fight with others, the willpower to fulfill my duty, the willpower to expand Krishna-consciousness, this willpower is what Krishna wants to see and then He will give you His blessings and the chance to do more things for Him. The willpower here is devotion, wanting to serve. There is no more frustration in you when you decide that you want to serve.
The colors in this world are mixed by 3 prime colors: blue, red and yellow. They create all the other colors which exist. White and black are also included there in a mysterious fashion. The colors are really an array, just like the rainbow, of showing the variety which exists in the development of characters.
The identity therapy is taking you to become more aware of your limitations in this world and it will show you how to go further. It will help you to understand that there is no underlying chaos in this creation, everything is orderly organized. Therefore our life also has to be orderly organized in order to get to some beautiful conclusion.
The peace of mind therapy means you are born, educated and raised and thus you incur debts which you have to repay in order to be happy and progress. What are those debts? You have debts with nature and her agents like mother earth, the elements (water, fire,...). Then you have debts with your parents and the forefathers who brought you into existence, they were all instrumental to that. And then you are getting education, that means you have debts with the rishis and teachers of the past and the present. How can we repay our debts to them?
Becoming part of the family of the Lord is so fantastic that for most of the people this remains an abstract idea, they just cannot imagine that. Once an atheist gave a speech in Calcutta and my Gurudeva went, he wanted to hear what argument he is giving. The atheist argued that if God exists do not bother about Him, because He is too busy. He is managing universes which are so far away that their light has not even reached the earth yet. He is managing all that, then do you think that He has any time left for you tiny little fellow? So you better forget about Him. That was his argument. Then Srila Sridhara Maharaja answered that if such a Person could exist Who has created all that, do you think that He would be able to forget even one ant? He knows everyone and He cares for everyone.
This life is complicated and we all wish to have a solid foundation and clarity about what we want in life. But we are facing so many lies and also we are coming in contact with revealed truth. In Oida therapy we start to discriminate what is truth for us and what is lie. This therapy will help us to increase discrimination so that we may not be carried away by advertisement and by other confusions which often propagate lies and make us ignore the truth about our own well being, about our own correct eating habits, etc.
The worship of the Supreme Lord is a secret gift we have received from our spiritual master. When we start to worship the Lord from within our heart, many mystical things start to take place in our life, that is a fact. You should all take a note of that, because all of you desire many mystical transformations in your life. You do not want life to go on in a routine of eating, sleeping, mating and defending. You want to come into the world of miracles. So the miracle has manifested once again yesterday, and it will manifest here everyday. But a greater miracle than the Lord appearing here is the miracle of coming also to serve Him.
Some people study the Vedas just to take another conclusion from them. They do not accept that Vishnu Narayan is the Enjoyer of everything. Sometimes they do not even accept that God exists. Sometimes they think that we are all God, that we are all on the same level, that we all have the same rights. Why should one be the Enjoyer and the others be the enjoyed? And in this way they create foolish theories where the created becomes the Creator. But nobody can become his own father or his own mother. You can become father and mother of some other people but you cannot become the father and mother of yourself.
The Bhagavad Gita As It Is, is the document which certifies the sweet will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as He tells us Himself. The words of God are something extraordinary, there is nothing comparable. The word of God is hope, the word of God is guidance and light, the word of God is clarity to eliminate our doubts, the word of God is what keeps us here, brought us here and makes all things possible. The Gita and Bhagavatam are the installations of infinite mercy coming towards us, to help us.
Who is worshipable? - The Vedic realm of deities, worshiped by some, disregared by others
|show details||hide details|
Who is God? Who is worshipable, what is His position? How does He make His appearance. When we talk about Gods in plural form we are having a philosophical question to resolve at once: Can God be many? It is touching upon advaita-vada, the Mayavada philosophy, and if God is many, then what is the meaning of God? We can also take into consideration what is called Godly because God and Godly, the Lord and His part and parcels, His portions, His fragments. Then the next question arrives is what is the relationship between God and His fragments? What is the power of His fragments? When a fragment will become that Godly that he will be considered a representative of God? In one sense there is a certain ambiguity about this whole subject, but only within the realm of mistrust. There is another approach to it, a theistic approach which is favorable to resolving the riddle once and for all. Lord Chaitanya gave us this key by teaching acintya beda abeda tattva (simultaneous oneness and difference). That is actually the answer to this intricate questioning of the Absolute.
We want to share with everyone the joy of having a Lord. The sum and substance of Vaishnava philosophy is to have a Lord. Without a Lord we are like street dogs. Street dogs are running around in this world looking for a master, sometimes fighting to survive and sometimes you see a street dog approaching you, there is a little bit of fear in the dog, there is the capacity of turning towards aggression incase you will become aggressive. But the street dog is having some hope.
One of the main reason marriages do not work is because the husband wants to be the center, and the wife also wants to be the center. And when the children come they say we are the center. And thats a big problem because none of us is the center, none of us is Supreme. How can we say that we are the center? Not at all. Is the husband Supreme because he is bringing a little money? Even money he is getting by the grace of God. Even food is coming by the grace of God. Even the air we breathe is by the grace of God. The floor we are sitting on is by the grace of God. So we are not Supreme.
There is a change on the horizon, even though it is very slow. Changes are slow. You can change a political system by simply taking up arms, killing all of the opponents and imposing your ideas, obliging people to fall into a certain pattern of behavior. Specifically in politics we have seen that. Hitler got the whole country to greet each other mentioning his name. Stalin, Lenin, they had the whole world influenced by communism and adapting a very atheistic way of life. They also tried to strictly prohibit all opposing currents. Nevertheless, after 83 years of communism we can see that the old tradition surfaced immediately, meaning they never really disappeared. They were just subdued by external force. Apparent changes can be brought about rather fast, but real changes in the heart and in the consciousness, they take time to be introduced.
Shyamananda Goswami was an orphan boy and because of his birth people had given him the name Dukhi. Dukhi means the sad one. So he was going all around until he decided by the grace of his Gurudeva to become a Vaishnava. He took initiation from Hriday Chaitanya who was a disciple of Gauri das Pandit in the bhava of sakhya (Serving God in the mood of friendship). These beautiful devotees were very intimately related to Lord Chaitanyas pastimes. So our Dukhi he became initiated and his guru was very much touched that he was called with the name Dukhi, then he said that from now on you will be called Sukhi Krishhna das. Sukhi means happy, Dukhi means sad.
Any king who does not teach his citizens about their respective duties in terms of varna and asrama but who simply exacts tolls and taxes from them is liable to suffer for the impious activities which have been performed by the citizens. In addition to such degradation, the king also loses his own fortune. A king, governor or president should not take the opportunity to occupy his post without also discharging his duty. He must teach the people within the state how to observe the divisions of varna and asrama. If a king neglects to give such instructions and is simply satisfied with levying taxes, then those who share in the collection -- namely, all the government servants and the head of the state -- are liable to share in the impious activities of the general masses.
We need to think about what we can do for Lord Chaitanya. It is very fulfilling to think in this way because we want to do something which really benefits the people, which really gives some tangible result for the people. So when we make a website and we hear that many people visit that website, we feel very happy. If somebody decides to become a devotee by reading our website, we will feel so much joy. This is why we do all these things, to make somebody really devotee, that they will really become enthusiastic to also do something nice for Krishna.
We worship Krishna because He maintains everyone, but not just because He maintains, also because He loves everyone. He is love personified. Just for the fact of maintaining others He already deserves anything and everything. As much as you are a conscious unit there is an original Conscious unit which is the Creator of all other conscious units and the Maintainer of them, so that is the Person we worship, you may call the Conscious unit anything you want, call Him Allah, call Him Jehovah, call Him Buddha, call Him whatever you want but He is the one who deserves to be worshiped.
If you consult the dictionary you will find that there is no clear idea about God. The dictionary is an important book because it explains the use of the words we are using. So if those people who put the dictionary together think that God is just a vague idea, thats a pretty nasty concept. The vague idea of God. How are you going to worship a vague idea? How are you going to develop love for a vague idea? This is all terribly confused, away from reality. Anyhow, by the grace of Srila Prabhupada we got a very clear idea of who is God. We can write many pages about the Supreme Personality of Godhead, His qualities and the way He makes Himself understandable to the human beings.
Mother Earths prayer - How demons are trying to control the world's food supply
|show details||hide details|
Mother Earth has all the seeds which are given by the Supreme Lord, so the seeds are very important. Nowadays we have a big problem. Demons are trying to control the seeds of this world, the laymen does not have an idea what's going on. Big American multinational companies are getting all the seeds from everywhere, hiding them and producing genetically modified seeds, which are supposed to be better than God's seeds. These modified seeds are producing fruits or vegetables but they do not produce any seeds to further on produce more fruits, so this is very tricky. After 10 or 20 years nobody will have seeds anymore and if you want to get any seeds you can only get it from them. So in this way they can control the entire agricultural world through seeds. Even 5000 years ago Mother Earth was complaining about the same problem when demons were taking advantage of the seeds.
An invitation to meditate on the Supreme Lords beautiful form could not be made more distinctive as it is being made here in the beautiful verses of the Srimad Bhagavatam. To actually consider this invitation is such a wonderful thing because in this meditation you are allowed to contemplate the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is so sweet that He will take away all the misery, if you are just humble enough to say: "Yes, I want to meditate upon Him." Otherwise on what are you going to meditate? Are you going to meditate on a candle light like some meditation groups recommend?
So much grace is there. You can see the Personality of Godhead in His divine deity form. To worship the Supreme Lord in His deity form, that was practiced by all the great souls. You may ask: "Why did they install so many deities, they could have worshiped all-together one or two?" Why? Because they are the isthadevs of their respective disciplic succession. When the guru installs a deity he wants his disciples to go on taking care of them. When you start a spiritual family you also want to have an isthadev, somebody to focus on, somebody to offer your practical sadhana and your efforts. Why do we make temples? Because it is nice to have a temple, it is nice to have a place where people can worship the Lord.
We have to remain on a level of heart-to-heart communication, and if somebody goes wrong it is their own problem. But if you see that somebody is doing wrong to others then do not hesitate to intervene, in a humble and goodness-like way, and say: "You cannot do harm to others, this is not permissible in the gurus family." Some people are very heavy with the others but then they are not heavy with themselves and finally they will have to suffer the reactions. Specifically one has to be careful not to be cruel amongst Vaishnavas. Cruelty of any kind does not belong in a devotional community. Cruelty means that you do not feel that the sufferings of the other people is unbearable. If you are the cause of other peoples suffering then you become cruel, and cruelty is really a definite step away from loving God.

What religion in this world will become the goal of all religions? In their mature stage all world religions will end up as the one religion: Nama-sankirtana (congregational chanting of the Holy Names of God). We feel this to be a certain fact. To glorify the Lord, to chant and dance. We chant in South America sometimes with the translation of the maha-mantra - Oh my Lord, please let me be an instrument of Your love. Some people get surprised how we can chant a translation instead of the mantra? In the maha-mantra there are so many deep meanings.
Now is eternal. Now is you in your relationship with God. There will always be only now. The power of now is the power of mercy, is the power of love, it is the power of saranagati (surrender), it is the power of your own soul being part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, and His freedom being invested, imbedded within your heart and bringing it to the point of the highest execution of that freedom, which is the absolute renunciation of that freedom at His lotus feet. So the power of now is of that intense level that there is no exaggeration possible pointing out it's importance. But we are very expert in wasting now away for some reason of bad association, offenses, lack of sukriti (spiritual merit) or curiosity about nonsense activities.
When the living entities mind becomes absorbed in the sense-gratification of the material world it brings about his conditional life and sufferings within the material situation. However, when the mind becomes unattached to material enjoyment it becomes the cause of liberation. When the flame in a lamp burns the wick improperly the lamp is blackened but when the lamp is filled with ghee and is burning properly there is bright illumination. Similarly, when the mind is absorbed in material sense-gratification it causes suffering and when detached from material sense-gratification it brings about the original brightness of Krishna-consciousness.
You are a living and a walking temple because in your heart resides the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His form as Antaryami, or the Soul inside of our soul. The Supersoul is the origin of everything that exists. He has expanded Himself into that particular feature because He wants to be with you. He is actually giving you very individual and personal attention because He cares for you and because He loves you. The Supreme Personality of Godhead of course is in every living entity which actually means that everybody is a potential walking temple. But wether your body can actually be recognized as a temple that depends on wether you are also worshipping the Lord in your heart and giving Him proper attention or wether you are a rebel who is ignoring the Lords desires and orders. Through the inner voice the Lord is always giving us the proper guidance.
Sistacar is the way of conduct which is being transmitted over the generations from one Vaishnava to another. It is not to be found even in the Hari Bhakti Vilas. For example when the Vyasa puja takes place we worship our Gurudev and some of his Godbrothers come and join the festival. We should situate them on the same level as our Gurudev, and before he will accept the offerings from everybody else on his Vyasa puja, he will offer flowers to his Godbrothers. Now where is that written? In which book do you find that? It is Sistacar. We learned that in Chaitanya Saraswat Math from Srila B.R. Sridhar Maharaja. Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada told his disciples to go and learn how to make a Vyasa Puja in the Ashram of Srila Sridhar Maharaja.
Kali is the Personality in-charged of this current age which started 5000 years ago. King Parikshit came into contact with the Personality of Kali who was just torturing a cow and King Parikshit wanted to kill him, as was the kings duty. But Kali said: "I am sorry, but this is my age now, I am allowed to do these things, I can exert my influence wherever there is animal killing, wherever there is intoxication, wherever there is gambling and wherever there is prostitution." King Parikshit had to recognize that the age of Kali has come, the age of hypocrisy, misunderstandings, the age of quarrel, the age of iron.
The child within this women's womb (Prahlad Maharaj) is faultless and sinless. He is a great devotee, a powerful servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, therefore you will not be able to kill him. The Lord sent a protector for this child, which was just going to be aborted. There have been many instances in which demons or non-devotees have attempted to kill a devotee, but they never have been able to destroy a great devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Lord promises in the Bhagavad gita that His devotee cannot be killed by demons.
The Supreme wants to meet with you. Are you ready to meet with Him? If the Supreme is calling you, will you go? But you may think: "If I go to meet the Supreme, maybe He will not let me come back to where I am now." Meeting the Supreme is not so easy, but He wants to meet you. As a matter of fact he already met you. He meets you all the time. But you are not meeting Him all the time. He is also meeting you here today. He is also meeting you every-time when you chant Hare Krishna. He is also meeting you when you eat prasadam. He is also meeting you when you read Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. He is also meeting you when you talk with a devotee. He is also meeting you when you chant bhajan. The Supreme is always meeting you. So it is very important that you understand that this is what it is all about, meeting the Supreme.

Is praying to the Lord for a healthy life detrimental to the devotional service? Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said: "Whatever way Lord Krishna is pleased to keep us, we should accept without reservation. To desire sound health in order to worship the Lord is favorable for devotional service, to desire sound health in order to engage in sense gratification is not accepted. Devotees do not wish to follow the path of the non-devotees who demand that the Lord serve them. Rather they pray for good health at the lotus feet of Sri Narasinghadev who destroys all obstacles in order to worship Krishna. This is certainly favorable."
When a pure devotee leaves this world in the company of his devotees, that is very auspicious. He established Lord Krishna's centers of love, His temples, in so many different places. This divine soul, pure devotee of Krishna, now when he returns to the spiritual world, you have the whole world crying and the whole spiritual world rejoicing for him to come there. It is a very strong mixture of feelings. The maha-samadhi, or when a pure devotee leaves this world, this is definitely a moment of spiritual union, spiritual joy. But those who are left behind, those who have to go on in their life in separation from him, it is barely tolerable for them.
Community building, building places where people come together and serve Krishna with a common ground, a common interest, and they actually get something going, that is one of the services I have. I can understand that these communities, if the devotees do not have that mood, they fail. The devotees who do not feel dependent on others, who do not feel joyful about seeing other devotees, who do not feel ready to sacrifice some of their personal interest to accommodate others, that will disintegrate sooner or later. Not everybody is qualified to be a member of a community. Most people do not even become socially acceptable. Many people cannot even live with their wife in peace, many people cannot even treat their own children in the appropriate way, many people they cannot even be honest citizens, all they do is always think how to steal, steal, steal. So community life has a high expectation, what is being expected? Sacrifice.
When you become an instrument of Lord Krishna's love, this is an intimate relationship. Because to be an instrument of His love means He is putting His love into you. When we consider the rasa-lila, this high elevated lila of Krishna dancing with the gopis, hugging them, kissing them, and just having a great time on the banks of the Yamuna, and forgetting time, and forgetting everything, this maha-rasa, this highest glorified pastime of the Lord, dancing with His devotees, when you ask Him to be an instrument of His love, do you really think that this is less intimate? He can give a hug so easily. Can you imagine being hugged and kissed by God? Can you imagine how that would feel?
The only thing I should do is to become a carrier of His message of love. I do not deserve His association, I have not done anything to be worth of His association. I have not done anything for purity. I have had such a black and bleak history behind myself. What can I ask for? What can I claim? Is there anything good from me to be expected? But I want to be a carrier of His message of love. I want to be that because I know that this will somehow charm Him and show Him that I am His. If I cannot carry His message then at least I want to carry His bags, or carry something. But I do not want to walk around just for myself, for my own ego world anymore. I want to carry out service, to run around for my Lord, and what could be a better purpose than running around and carrying His message.
The advanced devotee who is inclined to spontaneous loving service, should follow the activities of a particular associate of Krishna in Vrindavan. He should execute devotional service externally as a regulated devotee, as well as internally from his self-realized position. Thus he should perform both externally and internally. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu indicates the mood and public behavior of the devotee in raga-marga in the following verse: "If a woman is attached to a man other than her husband, she will appear very busy in carrying out her household affairs, but within her heart she is always relishing feelings of association with her paramour."
Real love must include God. When you love God your love will be truthful, because you cannot let anybody down in the spirit of loving God. You have to see God in everyone. You have to understand that the same Guide and Helper and Lover Who is sustaining you is also sustaining all of them. Loving God is the basic for loving others really, and that is sraddha (faith). When you believe that, you will be very enthusiastic for learning how to love Krishna. Because love for God is a process which you learn by the sadhana (spiritual practice), with the help of the guru and the sastras, they teach you how to love God, how to be the servant of the servant of God. They give you all the guidance and all the personal affection to go on and take up spiritual responsibility along the path.
Maha mantra & Prasadam - Chanting the holy name is recommended for everybody
|show details||hide details|
Wether you have all material desires or no material desires, or even if you have the desire to become one with Brahman, in any case it is strongly recommended that you chant the holy name and engage in bhakti-yoga (devotional service). We can recommend this chanting to everybody, even if they still have so many material desires lingering in them. The holy name of Krishna is independent and will take its own action. The holy name of Krishna will do everything possible that the people will become purified from their misunderstandings so that they will be able to understand and embrace the true holy name. Srila Prabhupada invited everybody in this world to participate. He gave this chanting out through harinam, distribution of books and through distribution of prasadam (food offered to God).
Intensity and eagerness, this is something very peculiar. You never pay for air, you never talk much about air, but if some powerful person comes and covers your mouth and nose and you are deprived of air, within seconds air becomes the supreme commodity and you are ready to give up your car, your house, your anything, just for a breath of air. Intense eagerness is really a crucial question, in how much are we eager to live the truth, to practice the truth, how eager are we to help others, how eager are we to help our Guru Maharaja?
Somehow or other due to my own misdeeds I have become entangled in the repeated births and deaths. Somehow or other I am suffering here, but You know my Lord what is best for me. I depend upon your kindness. Just consider me a dust-particle of Your lotus-feet, thats where I want to be situated, zero opposition. Mahaprabhu is speaking in such a lovely way, He is giving us the hope that we can surely be redeemed by the grace of Lord. We just have to take a very surrendered attitude towards Him. We can only approach Him with such an attitude. I am at your disposal my Lord. All my rebellion is over. I give in. I understand that I made so much difficulty, I created such a mess with my big false ego and I have been drowned into repetitive births and deaths and I do not want this anymore. I want this to end. I just want to be Yours, please accept me in such a way that I will not create any further opposition. This is a very humble prayer, because it means that you give up control. Giving up control that is called surrender.
Vaishnava teachings & Ecology - What the Vedas are teaching us & Growing our own food
|show details||hide details|
Srila Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, delivered to us the teachings of Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda in such a marvelous way that we were actually able to come in contact with the true original, mystical, living spirituality of ancient India. We are not very interested in modern India, we are not very interested in polluted India, we are also not very interested in the fusion of western society with the indian economical system. We are interested in the truth, in the original pure revelation of the great souls. What did Lord Krishna bring to this world in His Bhagavad gita? What did Lord Rama try to give to humanity when He manifested as the supreme king and established His kingdom? What did the Puranas and the Mahabharata want to give us? What is the essence of the teachings of the pure devotees. What is to be learned for us today so that we may deliver to others something valuable and tangible?
The month of kartik allows us to go deeper into spiritual practice. It gives us a certain permission to think about the astakalya-lila which is generally not accessible to devotees. At our Vraja-mandala parikrama we bring new devotees all the time so our practice remains on a very introductory level. Deeper levels of meditation and absorption require increased amount of tapasya (austerities). For example in the month of kartik the devotees renounce many types of foodstuffs, eat only once a day, sing continuously, in other words they really try very hard to come closer to the consciousness of pure devotees. For those who are coming from the general lifestyle, doing their jobs, coming to Vrindavan and getting deeply absorbed is undoubtedly very difficult and for those who come for the first or second time to Vrindavan this is simply impossible. But for our own purification we are reading the Bhajana-rahasya and trying to make some small moves into the right direction.
If you accept sannyas than stay sannyasi. Why some sannyasis have given up their sannyas and became vantasis (eating that which they have vomited and rejected previously) like the Bhagavatam says? To be a sannyasi is not easy, you really have to be renounced, renounce money, renounce fame, renounce female enjoyment. If you do not renounce it your sannyas will go down. You have to safeguard yourself very much. And the safeguarding is in the realm of giving full attention to your devotional service and being in a very humble and submissive attitude towards your spiritual master. A sannyasi has to always be in the consciousness of being a menial servant. Accept service as the goal of life. Sannyas is another service, but do not think that by taking sannyas you have become a better devotee than others.
A spiritual family gives hope. It gives you the hope that there are people to whom you can relate to, who will love you and who will help you to understand who is God and how to love Him. There are people who are open-minded, non-sectarian, and they are very compassionate with all living entities. When you feel that there are such kind of people then you become very hopeful and joyful. A hope combined with faith makes us experience joy, the joy of hope.
Krishna will certainly look that you have what you need in your life. Above all He is going to inspire others to have a nice relationship with you. What is the greatest treasure in life? Your friends, those who accompany you, somebody sincere and beautiful to relate to like our Gurudev, he is so careful and he has accepted us as his students, and he is always looking after our welfare with so much love, and through him we have so many brothers and sisters of whom some may be very intimately connected to us, others may not be so closely related to us, but at least a brother and a sister is always a brother and a sister. Then we have our father and mother, they are so kind generally, they are also given by Lord Krishna's grace, and the friends who go along with us in our life, this is very valuable. All this is the gift of Krishna. If Krishna is not giving you His grace you cannot get one single friend. You will live just by yourself.
In our Krishna conscious movement we offer the students his first initiation to allow him to chant the Hare Krishna maha mantra. By chanting the Hare Krishna maha mantra regularly and following the regulative principles one becomes qualified to be initiated as a brahmin. Because unless one is a qualified brahmin he cannot be allowed to worship Lord Vishnu. In our Krishna conscious society unless one is twice initiated, first by chanting Hare Krishna and second by Gayatri mantra he is not allowed to enter the kitchen or deity room to execute duties. However when one is elevated to the platform in which he can worship the deity his previous birth does not matter.
Good and bad is both bad. Is this a fatalistic world view? Does this mean that everything is bad? In the material world you are trying to do things good, but they will still be bad. You cannot adjust appropriately in this world because every adjustment you will make is still bad. Good and bad depends on the criteria of the Absolute, it does not depend on the criteria of somebody in illusion. Those who are in illusion they are always in illusion and even if they say something apparently nice it is still illusion. If you try to understand this you will make great spiritual advancement. To understand this means to come into contact with the only true criteria in life. What is the criteria? You are born, you are growing old, you are reproducing yourself, you are dwindling away and you are dying. What is good about it? Is it good to be born? Is it good to grow old? Is it good to die? What is good? What is bad?
We can only cure ourselves from the diseased condition of this material environment by accepting Krishna as the owner, the controller and the enjoyer of everything. If we accept this we become cured of the false notion of ownership. Srila Sridhar Maharaja explains that you become the enjoyer when you give up Krishna, but when you make Krishna the enjoyer of your life then all your problems are finished. Krishna is the enjoyer of all the beautiful girls. That is the sum and substance of Krishna's lila. Every soul belongs to Him and what to speak of the beautiful Gopis, they all belong to Him.
Goloka Vrindavan is the place of Love, where the Lord of love lives, where He is helping each and every soul to achieve the maximum degree of affection. Goloka Vrindavan is the place where each and every soul lives for Krishna, by Krishna's grace and in Krishna's sweet loving environment. We can hardly believe it, we think "What? you mean there is no reality of this style, as we know here?" No, there is not. There is no need for it. Why? Because it is the world where there is no egotism. All the ugly realities are created by the egotism in it's diverse varieties. The root cause of our sufferings is because we are having encounters with egotism. Egotism is so bad, it creates even divorce. By egotism people think "Oh, we don't want to live with each other anymore. The children? well they will have to see what they will do now". It is by the ego. By the incredible, horrible, demoniac ego we destroy anything and everything. There is so much misery in this material world, uncountable amounts of misery created by egotism. In Goloka Vrindavan there is no egotism, there is only Krishna-prema, Krishna love.
You may believe in God or you may have some doubts, but the fact is that mother nature is chastising the human beings in an increased amount in the last month. The hopis called it Koyaanisqatsi which means world out of balance. Out of balance for our well-being because nature has its own evaluation of balance, obviously. But since everything is controlled to the last iota (the individual pains and pleasures) we can certainly understand that the karmic reactions are totally precisely calculated for each individual. Thus any atheistic approach saying that this is all chance, luck, that there is nothing to be cautious about, that there is nothing to be learned from all that, is simply ignoring the reality of this material functioning principle. By chance you can actually get nothing, because the very fact that you may consider the possibility of chance is a gift which was given to you by mother nature. Mother nature gives you property and can withdraw it from you at any second.
Steadiness in relation to things which are favorable to bhakti, no desire for ones own respect, being respectful to others, friendliness, compassion, gratitude, self-control, mental tranquility, tolerance, and such other qualities are all helpful to the development of constancy in bhakti. Here Srila Rupa Goswami is giving us a rather simple description of being a good devotee. Nistha means you make yourself trusted and beloved. Nistha means that you are very solid in your support to others. It also means that you are self-engaging. A person has to look what has to be done, where do they need me, he has to look how to do things nice, he is creative, full of inspiration, he is full of happiness, there is no sadness in such a person because he is always full of energy to do something. And how do you know what to do? If you have a spiritual master, you know what to do, because you want to please him, fulfilling the vision he has.
Anartha nivrti is the challenge to get out of this material world. Devotees have to be very humble, this is the very natural symptom of a real devotee. He thinks, "I do not have a drop of devotion". Real devotees are always keen on finding out their own deficiencies to eliminate them, because they feel that way, that they are not qualified at all. Therefore they focus on the menial work. I heard once from Srila Sridhar Maharaja that Srimati Radharani always wants to do the menial work for Krishna.
The first introduction to Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu here coming towards us is somewhat comprehensible by using a bit of logic. What is there within us must be there within the Supreme, in an absolute perfect way. In the Supreme you will find anything and everything which you find in this world. Hence we should understand that love relationships which are a great longing and craving in this world come from the heart of God Himself. He has a love craving for all souls and He is captured by the love of His pure devotees, of whom Srimati Radhika is the outstanding transcendental counterpart of His eternal love. This topic is actually much to elevated to talk about it, but by the words of the Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu we are getting a gradual introduction into the science of prema or divine love.
Prahlad Maharaja was not confused even at this imminent danger which was before him through his father (Hiranyakashipu). Krishna loves extremes. So He utilizes extreme examples. For a young kid to go against his father that is not most likely to happen. For him being the son of the most powerful demoniac person in the whole universe is less likely. For a small kid to turn his life totally to the lotus feet of the Lord, that is also something very special. So we can see there are many extremes coming into the situation of the story. And finally the biggest extreme that the Supreme Lord (Narasingha) is born from a pillar to protect His devotee (Prahlad).
When I talk about sannyasis, I do not mean those who are having a sannyas dress. I mean all those who are renounced at spirit. They are doing only what Krishna desires. They are the real sannyasis at heart. Otherwise, taking sannyas that's just an external thing. It is good, people have some respect for a sannyasi, but you still have to behave and do something beautiful, otherwise it will not last too long either, that respect. Basically a sannyasi is getting a lot of respect in this transcendental tradition, because he has made an important step in his life, a very important step, "Oh my Lord let me become an instrument of your love". He signed the contract for all life.
Swami Prabhupada was a revolutionary. He did not care wether he was preaching to the communist or to the capitalist. When he preached to the communist he said: "Your communism is a good idea, but put Krishna in the center", to the capitalist he said: "Your democracy, well without God in the center it will not work". Like this, he was always telling everybody in this world that God has to be in the center. You have family troubles? That is because God is not in the center. You have troubles with anything else in this world? That is because God is not in the center. As soon as you put God in the center, the problems are gone.
In the month of Kartik we think about the beautiful pastimes of the Supreme Lord with His dear mother Yashoda. She is His most intimate associate as a mother. There are many times when the Lord appears, and He has different mothers when He appears. But Yashoda has the exclusive divine, supreme position. And her love is eternally glorified. Krishna is doing so many things in the month of Kartik. He is so naughty, He is so joyful, He is always giving pleasure to everyone.
The gaudiya vedantist has a very solid standing because he does not reject anything. The impersonalist excludes the personal revelation. He simply ignores that and focuses on a few Upanishadic shlokas which lend to believe that all is one, or lend to believe that unity and liberation is the highest. But because he ignores other sections of the Vedas, he cannot substantialize his way of thinking. Whereas the gaudiya vedantist he does not exclude anything, and he can give within it's perspective a proper understanding of Durga-worship, Shiva-worship, Ganesh-worship, of whatever you may mention, unless it is some really speculative thing like Rajnesh.
Srimati Radharani thinks She is not a devotee, She doesn't want to go and say: Krishna I want to dance with you. She says: I want to do the menial service for Krishna. The most simple and lowest service. She does not think that She is not good for cooking and anything else, no. Srimati Radharani wants to do all the menial service, but Krishna wants to dance with Her. Krishna wants to hold Her to His chest. That is Krishna's sweet will, and then when She understands Krishna's will then She wants to satisfy His hearts desire. So the real path of vaidhi-bhakti it will gradually turn into raganuga-bhakti as we are progressing and as we understand within ourselves that there are higher priorities than simply the rules. But these priorities you will not set in a mental frame of mind. You will simply be drawn into them and you will find yourself in a different world of spiritual concerns. And those concerns are unimaginable and they cannot be theoretically thought out.
So the Gopis are totally infatuated by their love for Krishna, but their love is so pure, they want to please Him. They want to make Him happy. As it is always being emphasized by our Spiritual Masters that the criteria of love for God is that you are not concerned with your own pleasure, but you are exclusively concerned for pleasing His senses, regardless what effort it may take, what danger it may entail...
For us as beginners in this path of devotional service, we can understand the position of Radha and Krishna as the divine couple, the underlying principle of loving relationships, adi-rasa, where the soul has a loving relationship with God, and that loving relationship is crowned by the madhurya-rasa, which is manifested in Sri Vrindavan dham...
Everything what Krishna does in His different incarnations, also known as lila-avatars, is simply wonderful. He is the most powerful, He is the most just, He defends everybody who is trying to take shelter of Him. Sometimes He does so by annihilating the Kshatriyas (Members of the military or reigning order) who have become corrupt. When it comes to defend the innocent animals who have been slaughtered by the so called brahmins in the age of kali, the Lord appears as Lord Buddha.
The mode of goodness is meant to establish the Supreme Lord's rule. The rule of Lord Krishna means dharma, the proper conduct. To behave in accordance with the Lord's principles, that can only be done in the mode of goodness. The mode of goodness is essential. The mode of goodness means you do not make other people feel bad, ever. The mode of goodness is the way to appreciate the light. In passion you cannot see the light. Everything is red hot, it is a rather burning sensation, and it is only being employed for the creative purpose. But if you want to maintain something, you have to be very supportive, you have to be very kind-hearted.
There is the official information and there is the secret information. The official information is that God is the creator and maintainer. The secret information can be found in the privacy area of God. The Srimad Bhagavatam is the beautiful description of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Bhagavan Sri Krishna. 18.000 verses about God. Krishna's own loving potency is Srimati Radharani, His consort. And Krishna Himself is in love with Her. The dedication to Krishna makes you understand the heart of Krishna.
Irreligious principles are being spread all over the world by popular fat gurus and so called incarnations. Somebody told me the other day that India right now has 36 incarnations competing with each other (who is the real one, or are they all real incarnations of God?) ... True religious principles have so much value in them that they are not really creating any suspicion. When we talk about religious principles, we have to establish a standard which does not allow any cheating. The school of the Bhagavatam starts by detecting every cheating mentality. Religious Principles which create havoc for other living entities, they cannot be of any transcendental nature, they are concocted, they are mundane and they should be rejected.
Sound and the meaning of Sound. Why some people understand and some don't? How everything depends upon the grace of the Lord ... In the beginning there was the word, the sound, the name.
In the Navadwip Mahatmya, this place of Sridham Mayapur has been discribed. Actually, going back to the time of Lord Chaitanya, He started a spiritual revolution, He defied the authority of that time, and He taught that we should all take shelter of transcendental consciousness in order to be able to accomplish the great gift of the human form of life. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was an extraordinary personality, He had been announced in the Vedic scriptures in several of the stanzas, as the Lord appearing as a devotee.
Once Srila Sridhar Maharaja was approached by one intellectual sceptic, and he asked him: What contribution did Srila Gour Kishor das Babaji Maharaja made to our Sampradaya? and there was a moment of silence, and one could feel that Srila Sridhar Maharaja did not appreciate the spirit of the inquiry but then in a very grave voice he said: Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada
Shiva Ratri ki jay! Brahma bole chatur mukhe 'Krishna Krishna Hare Hare', Mahadeva pancha mukhe 'Rama Rama Hare Hare'. Vaishnava yata Shambuh Gopeshwar Mahadeva ki jay. All the people you see walking in the streets with this little things on their shoulders, they are actually coming from 160 km walking (some of them barefoot), to bring Ganges water to Gopeshwar Mahadev...
Srila Rupa Goswami and Srila Sanatana Goswami are the spiritual masters of all the Gaudiya Vaishnava Acharyas. Together with Srila Raghunath Bhatta Goswami, Srila Jiva Goswami, Gopal Bhatta Goswami and Sri Raghunath das Goswami they started an Association and they were very intimately connected in Vrindavan Dham...
Hari means thief, He is the Supreme thief, because He steals the hearts of everyone, He steals the butter of the old Gopis, He is so keen to capture each and everyone of us...
O elevated demigods, at the time of death, sever, unbearable pain takes away the consciousness of all living entities who have accepted material bodies, don't you know about this pain?
It is not possible in this age to follow Dhruva Maharaja in his austerities, but the principles should be followed. We should not disregard the regulative principles given by our spiritual master, for they make it easier for the conditioned soul...
We know that Krishna wants us to be free... Just this morning I was reading from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, he said: "Submission to the Absolute Truth is the greatest excercise of freedom conceivable"
